Dortmund Airport is a regional airport. It is located in the east of Dortmund on the city limits to Holzwickede and Unna. The airport is the third largest commercial airport in North Rhine-Westphalia, measured by the number of passengers. Today, the airport complex extends from the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), which was built in 1987, in the west to the main terminal in the east, completed in 2000.
