Malta International Airport is the only international airport serving the Republic of Malta. The Malta airport has 1 passenger terminal. The airport serves as the main hub for Air Malta Airlines, as well as hosting the annual Malta Airshow, which is visited by various European military and civil aircraft. The airfield has two runways aligned at right angles to each other. First one is 3,554m long and 60m wide. Second one is 2,377m long and 45m wide.

The history of Malta Airport back to 1920s. The airport was used by Italian and English aircraft. The first terminal was built by British government in 1958 and it had a restaurant, a post office a balcony for public view and so on. Construction of the present air terminal building started in September 1989 and was completed in February 1992. The old terminal building was closed upon its opening and later converted into a cargo terminal.
