History and development over the years

The first airport in Liege was early in the twentieth century the Ans airfield.  During WWI German forces occupied this territory. Those quickly judging the site inappropriate, they install at the end of 1914 another field of aviation on the site of Bierset. The Ans airfield was definitively abandoned in 1930 in favour of the Bierset site, when, on the occasion of the international exhibition of Liege, a civil terminal was installed on the site of the air base of Bierset of the Belgian Air Force. This one shared its tracks with the airport of Liege before closing in 2010. Since 1998, Liege Airport has been equipped with a new control tower.
