Graz Airport
Graz Airport is located about 9 km south of the city center of Graz. The airport serving civil aviation is part of the Holding Graz and home to the Austrian Aviation Museum. The airport is located mostly in the village Abtissendorf in the municipality Feldkirchen and to a lesser extent in Kalsdorf. The check-in hall is located in the village of Abtissendorf. The airport is connected to the public regional bus system of the Styrian Transport Association. Lines 630 and 631 connect the airport with Graz. The bus stop is in front of the departure hall, the journey from the airport to the center of Graz (Jakominiplatz) takes up to 30 minutes.
History and development over the years
The Graz Airport was built in the middle of Graz on the ground of a former Roman villa, which should have been the center of a private business entity in the province of Noricum. In 1914 the airport finally launched its first aircraft. Three years after the closure of the camp, the airport was transferred to the Styrian Provincial Government, which focused exclusively on glider flying, as military and civil aviation was banned. Two years later, the administration finally transferred to the Republic of Austria.
