Eindhoven Airport
Eindhoven Airport is estimated to expand and reach its peak to around 42,000 flights and 5 million passengers by 2020. The projected growth is in part due to the assistance received from local community and recommendations from Alders and the Dutch Aviation. Safety and security are the foundation of the airport's business. Eindhoven Airport (IATA code: EIN, ICAO code: EHEH) was the most used regional airport in the Netherlands in 2017, with 5.7 million passengers. The airport is located between Best and Veldhoven on the western edge of Eindhoven in the province of North Brabant. Originally the airport was just a military airfield. Meanwhile, it is also used intensively for civil aviation. Eindhoven Airport is located 7 kilometers west of Eindhoven, close to exit 29 (Eindhoven Airport) of the N2 local road parallel to the A2 Amsterdam-Maastricht motorway. Since 2010 it has no longer been directly connected to the A2. Bus lines 400 and 401 operate between Eindhoven Station and the airport. The journey takes about 20 minutes. EA has a single terminal, from which the flights are dealt with. Flights are arranged between all significant EU destinations, such as in Madrid, Paris, London and Amsterdam. The airplane terminal is a united office, taking care of exactly two million or more travelers annually. Travelers who seek for data or help will discover well disposed, supportive, English and Dutch-speaking staff at the Information area, situated in the terminal's fundamental lobby.
History and development over the years
In 1932 the airfield with a grass runway was established under the name Welschap. During the World War II, Eindhoven Airport was occupied by the Luftwaffe of the Wehrmacht from 1940 to 1944. In the 1980s, part of the airfield was turned over to civilian traffic and then rebuilt for civil aviation. This project was completed in 2005 with the commissioning of the new terminal hall. Incidentally, civilian traffic uses the military traffic management, fire brigade and other services. Eindhoven Airport is 51% owned by the Schiphol Group. The city of Eindhoven and the province of North Brabant each have a share of 24.5%. Eindhoven is mainly served by low-cost and charter airlines. Ryanair, Wizz Air and Transavia are the main airlines operating from here to numerous European cities and tourist destinations. Seasonally there are other airlines and destinations. Long-haul flights are not offered. The Dutch Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu) uses the facility as a military air base and calls it Vliegbasis Eindhoven, but the old name Welschap is still in use.
