The airport Berlin-Schönefeld is next to the airport Tegel one of the two international airports in Greater Berlin. Operator of the airport is the airport Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB, until the end of 2011 airport Berlin-Schoenefeld GmbH) with the partners Land Berlin, Land Brandenburg and Federal Republic of Germany. In 2017, 12,865,312 passengers were handled at the airport. In terms of passenger numbers, the airport was ranked seventh in Germany in 2016. Schönefeld is located in Schönefeld (Dahme-Spreewald district, Brandenburg) and is approximately 22 kilometers from the center of Berlin, which is located in a northwestern direction; a part of the no longer used Nordbahn also extended to the city of Berlin. The airport is 48 meters above sea level and with an area of 620 hectares is the area's largest airport. It is connected to the rail traffic via the station Berlin-Schönefeld Airport. There are regional and S-Bahn trains (S45, S9). Twice per hour, the "Airport Express" operates the RE7 and RB14 lines to Berlin Central Station via Ostbahnhof and the RB22 to Potsdam. The airport can also be reached by various bus lines. By car you can reach the airport via the A 113. Taxi ranks are located in front of the entrance of Terminal A.
