The airfield Essen / Mülheim is a traffic landing place in the southwest of the Ruhr area. It is nationally important for vocational pilot training and serves as the home base of some impact airships. The airfield is located on the border between Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr, about eight kilometers southwest of the Essen and about five kilometers southeast of the Mülheim city center.
